Adaptive Learn to Play Hockey - Clearwater Ice Arena - Spring 2026 Ice Hockey
Welcome to the Tampa Bay Lightning Adaptive Learn to Play Hockey program! This inclusive initiative is designed to introduce children with physical and neuro-developmental differences to the exciting sport of hockey in a fun, supportive, and safe environment. Hosted at Clearwater Ice Arena, our program offers two specialized tracks to ensure every child has the chance to experience the joy of hockey in a way that suits their needs and abilities.
Participants will receive their own full set of hockey equipment to keep and will take part in eight (8) weekly on-ice sessions led by trained coaches and volunteers experienced in adaptive and inclusive hockey instruction.
Program Options:
1. Learn to Play Sled Hockey
For children with physical disabilities
This program is tailored for participants who require mobility support and would benefit from using a sled and adaptive gear. No skating or prior experience is necessary—just a love for the game and a willingness to try something new!
2. Neurodiverse Learn to Play Hockey
For children with neurodevelopmental disabilities (including Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and other cognitive or learning differences)
This sensory-friendly version of Learn to Play is structured to support children with neurodiverse needs through predictable routines, experienced coaches, and a welcoming environment. Activities will focus on building confidence, social skills, and motor coordination—while having fun on the ice!
Equipment & Cost:
Each participant will receive a full set of hockey equipment to keep, including helmet, skates (or sled), gloves, pads, stick (or sticks), and jersey. All equipment will be fitted and distributed prior to the first session.
